The first snow leopards came to Plzen from Tierpark in Berlin in the beginning of November 2004. Named Makan and Nanschan, the brothers were born in May. Makan later [2007] left to the Usti Zoo and Nanschan got a girlfriend, Jamila.. She was born in Koln (Germany) April 25 / 2005. Young ones, male and female were born May 8 / 2008. To our surprise, the mother chose the lower den to give birth and later started to move her cubs between the 2 lower dens. Already you can see them around the openings of both dens.
JUDr. Marcela Krejsova gave the name Assam to the male and Pavel Rodl named the female Asuka. The christening was 3 weeks after Assam`s christening.
Only Zoo Liberec and Jihlava were able to breed young Snow Leopards naturally in the Czech Republic.
